With a view to coordinate various cultural schemes of the Government and to implement those schemes, the Directorate of Art and Culture is assisted by a Joint Director, Assistant Director, Accounts Officer, Executive Officer and other staff.
Aims of the Department
- Promotes various dimensions of Tamil Culture namely Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and Folk Arts.
- Disseminates our ancient art forms such as Music, Dance, Drama, Folk Arts to provide access to the common public.
- Carries out the noble cause of encouraging the artistes involved in arts, thereby promoting and preserving their art forms to the future generation.
Functions of the Department
- Imparts education to the younger generation in the field of Music, Dance, Drama, Folk Arts, Painting and Sculpture through Performing Arts and Fine Arts Educational Institutions.
- Encouraging the artistes and art groups involved in such arts by providing them opportunities to perform cultural programmes.
- Promoting the traditional art forms of Tamil Nadu, providing folk arts training to younger generation
- Talented artists are being conferred with State level awards and District level awards according to their ages.
- Conducting cultural functions to showcase our Tamil Culture in the State, other States and Foreign Countries.
- Providing monthly financial assistance to the aged indigent artistes.
- Providing financial assistance to voluntary cultural organisations for conduct of art functions and art exhibtions.
